Who gets to be seen on stage and screen, and who gets to play them? Why write trans, non-binary, and non-gendered characters? Who can write them? How can we make more room for trans and non-binary actors, and why should we? Complex questions that this talk aims to start to answer in simple ways.Vincent is a queer non-binary trans person with a long and varied list of accomplishments including fashion design, drawing, early childhood education, and writing for the page, the stage, and the screen. Notable work includes a play at BATS theatre, "Life in the Whale"; a series of mini webinars about how parents can help children with stress narrated by Dai Henwood; illustration of a comic zine about pornography for the NZ Classification Office; and they are currently finishing an essay on motherhood and gender for an upcoming anthology.
